A Case of the Mondays #43

As you read this post, I’m headed up to Rehoboth, Delaware for the first ever Envision Workshop! I’m so excited to get to spend this week hosting a workshop with a group of my friends and industry peers! I can’t wait to get to know each and every person attending and really shake up their businesses and get them motivated to take 2014 by storm! I’ve also never been to Delaware, AND it might snow this week. I’m not sure how it could get any better right now:)

As always, here’s a recap of my weekend! It was pretty darn eventful, if you ask me:)

Friday afternoon I drove out to Richmond to shoot Drew and Amanda’s engagement session. We had had to postpone it a week because of the rain, and I’m so glad we did! The weather was GORGEOUS on Friday and we got lots of that glowy light I knew Amanda really wanted! I can’t wait to share more of these with you guys later this week!

Saturday, we went to see a ship christening! When John isn’t shooting for me, his full time job is actually building ships at the Newport News Shipyard. He’s been working there roughly three years or so and they are getting close to putting the final touches on the aircraft carrier he’s been working on the entire time he has been at his job. THE ENTIRE TIME. It was so cool to go and see this ceremony, and it reminded me how important what my husband does is…he builds ships that defend America. Way to make taking pictures look weak, JNEEZY!! (Kidding). Jokes aside, the ceremony was really awesome, and my dad and my sister got to go too. Another thing I’m really thankful for is how close my family is and how John has so easily become one of “us”. It made me really happy to have them there to support John and to see how proud they were of him as well:)

Sunday…well Sunday we didn’t do much. I just got up early, and you know, ran a HALF MARATHON. I kept seeing all these things the week before the race about blind people running full marathons, or really elderly people running full marathons. All of these really inspiring stories about people who have way more excuses than I do who ran DOUBLE what I was nervous about running kept popping up and it kind of made me feel discouraged actually. Like why am I struggling to run HALF of what these incredible people did? But I am NOT them. I’ve never done an athletic thing in my life. I’m only 5’2” and have a pretty small frame, no aim, and no balance, and just learned how to swim this year, so there are pretty much NO sports I’m suited to. I typically prefer channel surfing as sport:) Running a half marathon is my equivalent to being in the Olympics, or the Super Bowl…I know I may not be the best runner out there, and I’m definitely no where close to the fastest, but I tried my best and I ran 13.1 miles. Did I mention I trained for this during my busiest season?? Yep.

John, my sister, and a few of my friends were waiting for me at the finish line. It was so emotional to cross that line and complete the race. The culmination of all of my training and all of the time spent running, nursing sore knees, eating disgusting gellies that look like they should be delicious, and visualising that moment in my head a bajillion times finally came to fruition and it was a little overwhelming to be honest! I will definitely look back on that moment for years and years to come:) I plan to write up a better recap of the race soon!

Well, that’s it for me! I have a full week of blog posts scheduled for you guys, but keep in mind I’m out of town and won’t have much internet time, so email responses may be slower than usual. I plan to get back to anything not urgent on Monday, November 18th. Talk to you soon, peeps!

    What an incredible weekend!

  2. Karen says:

Congrats on the 1/2 Katie!!! Such a HUGE accomplishment! (I don’t know how you did it during wedding season either!) Running across that finish line makes all the pain and soreness from the race and all the training totally and completely worth it! Have a great time at your workshop!

  3. Sarah says:

  4. katie says:

So much happening! I can’t wait to hear about the workshop!

  5. Awesome weekend. We’re kind of hippies but we still get thrills whenever we see the ships in the shipyard. I don’t think anyone can argue with the importance of having a strong navy, and the guys at the shipyard are the best builders in the world!

  6. Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend!
