Donuts for Breakfast and Harry Potter Marathons

Personal

January 3, 2013

The last night of 2012 we didn’t do anything fancy. We didn’t get dressed up, wear glitter, or party til dawn. That’s not really us, if you know what I mean. We’re the couple that went to Vegas with our friends and went to bed early so we could sightsee the next day. Exciting right?? Instead of partying like everyone else, we went to dinner with friends and then met up with some of our other friends at a tiny local bar that doesn’t even serve liquor. We kissed at midnight and went home to watch Justin Bieber (John’s favorite).

I would like to say we spent the first two days of 2013 doing something productive…at least we could have taken our Christmas tree down, right? But we didn’t. We woke up late, ate donuts for breakfast, and argued over who got to wear the snuggie while we watched all 8 Harry Potter movies. It was the best two days I’ve had in a long time! We’re both so busy we rarely have time to spend one on one doing nothing. And technically we really didn’t have time for it this week either…there’s still laundry to be done, a dozen projects we need to finish, and groceries that won’t buy themselves. But in my opinion, being lazy these past two days was the best way we could have started the new year…by making “us” a priority. In a month, a year, five years, twenty years, it won’t matter that we didn’t have food in the apartment or never fixed our headboard. It won’t matter that I didn’t email everyone back within an hour. The only thing that will still matter is us. I can’t say that my life is perfect or that I have everything figured out, but I can’t complain  either. We are definitely not the richest, and we will never be on Jay Z and Beyonce’s level, but what we do have is so much more than money could ever buy.

We had a HP marathon last fall! It took us all weekend, but it was so worth it to just sit, eat popcorn and snuggle 🙂

So sweet, Katie!! I’m jealous of your movie marathon! Glad that you and John have been able to spend so much time together. I think being lazy with the one you love is the best time one can spend 🙂 xoxo

Absolutely wonderful…..love this post! It’s so good to be reminded sometimes that there are other people out there that take a break to do nothing, too. That not everyone is always going going going and out partying and being crazy. That there’s nothing wrong with being in Vegas and going to bed early so you can go sight-see.

I heart this post. And I am so glad you spent two days watching HP and eating donuts! I couldn’t agree more that your headboard doesn’t matter and that laundry will always be there. PS – I think maybe John should buy you a snuggie. Or forever lazy….have you seen forever lazy? Crazy. Anyway, happy new year!!

I swear that sometimes the best thing that you can do for your relationship is to curl up on the couch and enjoy a little down time. Huey and I are like that too – we love going out occasionally… but we’re more of “comfy”, go to bed early, appreciate the little things people.
