Hawaii

You might have read about this on my Instagram or on Facebook, but we just recently booked our honeymoon! Yes, you read that right! Can we even still call it a honeymoon though, since we’ve been married four years? What are the rules on that? When we were planning our wedding, we decided to hold off on taking a honeymoon right away so that we could afford our wedding day. At the time we figured we could take a vacation anytime, but we’d definitely regret it if we didn’t hire our favorite photographers. I don’t think either one of us ever really intended for it to be quite this long before we finally took our honeymoon, but life kind of got in the way. We had a flood, I quit my day job to pursue running the business full time, and taking a big vacation felt sort of out of our reach. It didn’t seem like a possibility.

Last year we started talking a lot about where we’d like to go whenever we finally booked a big trip for the two of us. Italy was high on the top of my list (and I got the opportunity to go, thanks to an incredible deal on Emirates.com) but John said he’d rather go to Hawaii. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to go there too! Hawaii seems like it has all of the things we love in a vacation…beautiful sights you can’t see anywhere else, lots of fun activities, and most importantly (to us, at least), amazing food. I’m a huge believer in putting things out there into the universe if you really want them, so I just started talking about Hawaii all. the. damn. time. I joked to one of my friends the other day “People are probably so glad that I booked this trip so they can stop hearing me talk about wanting to go!”. I was kidding, but only sort of.

Thanks to finding an INCREDIBLE deal on airfare and an adorable B&B, I’m excited to announce we’ll be heading to Oahu (and Maui hopefully) in December! Since we’ll already be there, we would LOVE to photograph an elopement or a session or two while we’re there. We can’t imagine a more beautiful place to photograph in! I mean, Virginia is pretty great, but Hawaii has palm trees. And pineapples. Please email me if you’re interested in having us photograph you!

Lastly, tell me all of your favorite sights and eats on Oahu and Maui! I’d love to hear your suggestions!! Feel free to comment here or email!

Ahhh we honeymooned in Maui and it was AMAZING!! So much to do! The Old Lahaina luau is awesome. And you’ll definitely want to take a trip to the top of Mt. Haleakala before sunrise one morning to catch the sunrise from ABOVE the clouds! It’s amazing! I’d suggest doing that on your first morning while you’re still on East Coast time so getting up at 4AM isn’t too bad! Have fun! 🙂

We did almost the same thing!! We called it our honeymoon and traveled to Hawaii four years after we were married:):) We visited Maui and it was incredible!! We loved Mama’s Fish House and the Old Lahaina Luau… also skip the road to Hana and instead drive around the west side of the island where the road becomes a single lane and snakes it’s way around the cliffside. Eventually you come to some beautiful quiet and quaint villages…it was our favorite part of the trip. Have an amazing time!!
