I had pre-written another post to share with you guys today in honor of my first anniversary as a wife.  But I woke up feeling emotional and decided to write what was on my heart this morning instead. I feel like this post is borderline on almost OVER sharing and some people might even say that it is. But I think that emotional posts are the most relatable and if there is even one person who can relate, I feel like it was worth it to share.

It’s time for me to make a confession. Actually, it’s not so much of a confession as it is just an admittance of something a lot of people might not know about me. I was adopted as an infant and brought to the United States from Korea when I was four months old. You might be wondering what that has to do with my marriage, but it  has everything to do with it. Although I always knew my parents loved me more than anything (and I had four parents who love me to death) and my sister loved me just as much, I think there was a part of me that for a long time was very lost and confused. And I never really understood why I felt that way until I met John and finally felt like I was where I belonged.

It might sound weird to other people, especially those who are not adopted, but I have never really felt like I was accepted by others until John. His acceptance isn’t the unconditional love of parents who got to know me as I grew up into who I am today. It isn’t the easy camaraderie that you share with friends who know the persona you have put together for yourself. It’s the love of the CHOICE of someone who has gotten to know me over five years time, who has lived with me, cried with me, and put up with me when I’m a jerk. We lived together three years and he STILL decided to show up on our wedding day. What means so much to me, is that he has seen me at my worst and still chose to commit his life to me. And after a lifetime of being afraid of abandonment and unconsciously being hurt by that first choice my biological mom made for me, having someone stand up and say in front of all the people closest to us that he will love me forever is the best thing I feel like I will work the rest of my life to deserve.

To me, marriage means we both had a choice. And I was chosen for real this time by somebody who knows the real me.

oh my goodness… teary eyed before i even get to work. <3 happy anniversary you guys, you rule.

Yep! The title of this post says it all- – very emotional and touching. What you two have is very special! Happy Anniversary, Katie and John!

Katie – what a beautiful story! I’m so glad and thankful you shared it 🙂 Happy anniversary!

Totally just cried. I don’t know what you were going to post, but this was beautiful. Congrats on your first year, lady friend!

Such an emotional post – Thank you for sharing this! Happy Anniversary love! 🙂

Beautiful post, so very touching. I’m so happy for you both that you found each other! 🙂

This is a beautiful post, Katie! I get so moved by my husband as well, constantly wondering how he can love me? You’re right – it’s something about someone choosing to love you, rather than the love that our families have for us. Yes, they choose to love us to, but it’s also partly an obligation. A husband’s love for his wife is a choice, and we are both blessed with husbands who love us for exactly who we are. Thanks for sharing this!

YAY!! Love this post 🙂 Happy Anniversary Katie and John!

You’re absolutely right, Katie. The emotional posts are the ones people can most relate to. This post is amazing, and makes me appreciate the choice my fiance is making to have me as his wife. Thank you for sharing, and a very Happy Anniversary to you guys.

Life Happens

I had a full week of posts scheduled this week for the blog…unfortunately sometimes life intervenes with our plans and decides to mix things up…just for fun. Right now, I am blogging from my iPhone. GOOD TIMES. My computer power jack broke and once again set me into a mac vs. pc internal crisis. I like to think of myself as having mac tastes on a pc budget. Ha! We are also not the type of people to take out a computer on credit though…so until I can squirrel away the entire amount I would need to upgrade to a shiny new iMac, you will see me lugging around my barely one year old HP laptop. I mean, it does have a blu ray player so that gets some cool points right?

I wasn’t sure whether or not I would bring this whole thing up on the blog here, but I think there is a valuable lesson to be shared. I like to think that all of these little snafus that come up in life are not just around to annoy us, they’re there to teach us things. And right now I’m learning to prioritize what is important to me in life and also to recognize that sometimes as an adult you will have to make difficult choices and sacrifice things you would really like to have. My parents always showed me that there is no shame in working with what you have and that saving up is always better in the long run than owing someone for something you “own”.

So I guess I’ll let that simmer with you guys for the day. I AM typing this out on my phone after all. Sidenote: These two are getting married Saturday! Sidenote 2: Please tell me I’m not the only one who didn’t know what S/N meant on Facebook without looking it up on Urban Dictionary…

PS…Brooke and Justin’s blog post will be a special SATURDAY blog post this week!! I know you are excited 🙂

great post, katie. and a great reminder! also, i had no idea was S/N was hahahah. i’m behind on slang…

ah I have no idea what S/N means!!! yikers! I love this post and it is so true, I won’t buy any piece of gear until I can pay for it in full. I feel like it is the nature of our business too. You never know what is going to come your way so it is always smart to be prepared. I must say you did a really good job blogging from your phone!!!

Girlfriend I totally feel you on this whole situation. Shall we all remember that terrifying scare I had last month with running out of space?! But I definitely agree that these little snafus AREhere to teach us things, not only about how we react to challenges but also how to overcome these challenges and be better for it. I know it will be hard for a while, but just know that you will come out better and learn to be more resourceful because of this little bump in the road. Good luck!!

We go to Las Vegas

So you remember how in school you had to write about what you did over summer vacation and share it with the class? Okay, okay.  I don’t…I never did that. But this is kind of like that. It’s the blog version of What I Did on Vacation. Otherwise known as share with the internet so they can feel like they went too.

Our trip to Vegas started with a few bumps. Our flight was scheduled for 11:23 out of Norfolk, but it ended up getting delayed. And getting delayed. And getting delayed some more. Once we finally boarded our plane, we were forced to de-plane right before takeoff…apparently there were mechanical errors! It seemed like we were never going to leave Norfolk and we were almost certainly going to miss our connecting flight out of Chicago.

After a mildly awkward interaction with an airline clerk and a run in with an aging celebrity we ended up making it out of Norfolk! Shortly after a quick flight to the Dulles airport we were finally headed to Vegas! Sadly I was “that girl” on both flights. The one with the hacking cough who sounds like she is contaminating everyone on the plane with a virus that is sure to turn everyone into zombies.

It was a long trip, but we finally made it to Sin City!

Hope you enjoyed the look into our time in Vegas! Later this week I will be back with some images from a little day trip we took while we were out there.

This looks like an incredible vacation! 🙂

Love your photos! Thanks for sharing. I’ll be there soon enough…15 days and counting….hee!hee!

love these photos! and was that guy pulling a hippo? or something? what was that?!! hahaha and your outfits are all so adorns!

Wow. Until now I never thought of Vegas as an interesting place. You made it look way more appealing to me than any pics I’ve seen before!

Katie Nesbitt

HAHA! the guy had a fake gold stuffed dog on a leash and he had a bucket and a sign that said turn me on for a quarter. We put money in and all he did was this little freak out dance and the dog wasnt really in it lol. he was just one of many interesting um CHARACTERS vegas has to offer.

Great photos (of course!) of Vegas. Now I want In & Out!

Getting my bearings

So after a whirlwind week and a half, life is FINALLY starting to get back to normal around here. We got back from our Vegas vacation this past Thursday just in time for Brooke and Justin’s wedding on Friday! I also was finally able to get some antibiotics! My doctor didn’t want to prescribe them to me, but I outsmarted her and went to Patient First instead. Ha! So even though I still felt pretty bad for most of our vacation, I’m starting to feel like a human again. And I don’t sound like an old man with lung cancer when I talk! That’s progress;)

I will be spending my Monday getting reorganized and prepping for the week! What will you be doing?

Here is a peek at Brooke and Justin’s wedding!! Expect it to hit the blog later this week:) These guys are ROCK STARS at portraits and let us have tons of time for them!!

oooooo i can’t wait to see the rest of their wedding!!!!!! so glad you had fun in The Vegas!

Things I learned in Vegas

  1. The farther you go down the strip, the sketchier things get.
  2. Christian Louboutins will never be in my budget.
  3. If you go 20 miles over the speed limit in Arizona you will get arrested.
  4. It’s really easy to get a hooker.
  5. No humidity means no frizzy hair. But it also means bloody snot. Was that TMI??
  6. Pretty much anything goes.

Hehehe! 🙂 Never been to Vegas but this sounds pretty spot on from everything I’ve heard! Hope you’re loving your trip!

HA! That’s sounds about right. Especially #1 and #6. I’ll be there soon. I don’t care how sketchy it is, I love Vegas 🙂 The people watching alone is entertaining!

How fabulous and no, I personally dont think the snot comment was TMI! People NEED to know that kind of thing! lol Hope you were able to rock Vegas despite being a tad bit sick.

haha OH NOES! I hope you’re okay! bloody snot is never good. ahhhhhhh The Vegas.

Girl! You need to go to WPPI next year so we can do it up in Vegas together!!! 🙂
