Washington DC Engagement Photos | Heidi + Joe

You know how I talk a lot about how fast time flies by? Well, these two are actually making me wish it would speed up even more quickly so that it would be 2018 already and time for their wedding! One of the things I love most about photographing weddings is working with people like Heidi and Joe who I would hang out with even if we weren’t their wedding photographers! We’ve gotten to meet a ton of really amazing people through our work, and these two are no exception!

After having to reschedule because of the finicky Spring weather, we finally lucked out with a beautiful (albeit chilly!) morning to spend some time visiting some of their favorite spots around DC! And they treated us to donuts afterward! Can’t beat that! Enjoy some favorites from our time together:)

Georgetown University Wedding Photos | Mary & Simon

After shooting almost 130 weddings, you’d think that it might start getting kind of old. That couldn’t be farther from the truth though, and I’ll tell you why…it’s because of couples like Mary and Simon, who are just so head over heels in love. Getting to witness two people who are so deeply in love, who are best friends like John and I are, become husband and wife is something that is just so special! Every wedding day is unique and I LOVED this one! Mary’s mom, Lisa, planned everything out so perfectly that the only small hiccup was running just a few minutes late after hair and makeup…but there was so much portrait time for us, we made up for it by taking lots of photos before AND after the ceremony! It rained just enough to bring good luck to the newlyweds and stopped right when we needed to do photos.

I loved the sweetness of this wedding, the focus Mary and Simon put on sharing the day with their family and friends, and all of the ways they made their day one to remember. I’ll never forget their sweet vows or how there wasn’t a dry eye in the church when they read them to one another. And Dalhgren Chapel and Georgetown University couldn’t be a better place for wedding photos!! I could have shot portraits there all day long!

This wedding was such a privelige to be a part of and I’m thankful they chose us to be their photographers! Enjoy a few of my favorite images!!

Mary and Simon had one of the sweetest first looks I’ve ever seen!! Neither of them had any idea what the other was going to be wearing since Simon picked his own suit…their reactions were priceless!

Just before our time together ended, the sun came out! What a perfect ending, right?? We snuck outside for just a few sunset photos. I love that they’ll have the best of both worlds (clean, overcast light and a warm sunset!) in their wedding day images!

Congrats again, guys!! It was such an honor to be a part of your wedding day!!

Virginia Lifestyle Portraits | Janine, Josh, & Cassidy

One of the greatest joys that comes from my job is getting to share in some of the biggest moments in peoples’ lives. Our clients let us into some of the most exciting milestones in their lives and that never stops being a privilege! It’s been a joy to see Janine and Josh go from being engaged to taking on married life and now parenthood! They are SO suited to their new roles as Mom and Dad! To see them dote and love on baby Cassidy was just the sweetest thing!

I really enjoy these kinds of in home portrait sessions for new parents! These photos are such wonderful memories of a time that’s going to fly by in the blink of an eye! I can’t tell you how much these sessions make me so excited for that time in my own life 🙂 Enjoy a few of my favorites from my time with Janine, Josh, and Cassidy!

Monthly Meeting – May

I have no idea how it’s not only MAY already but halfway through it! I say this every year, but this year seems to be flying by faster than normal, doesn’t it? It’s unreal how fast the time is going by, but I think that’s a good reminder to soak it all in and be intentional with our time!

Here’s how I did with my April goals:

Once a week pre-Blog a week’s worth of content a week in advance – Fail. Being really real here, I’ve definitely put the blog on the back burner behind client images and other things I have to work on every day. Sometimes it just isn’t my top priority anymore and that’s okay!

Finish planning and prepping (and HOST!) the very first Styled Experience – Complete! I can’t wait to share the images and a little more about how it all went!!

Finish reading “Everybody Writes” and blog about it. – I feel like this poor book will never get finished! I’m learning that the best way for me to get books in during this busy time of year is actually audiobooks…because I can actually actively listen while I work. Maybe I need to buy the audio book of this!!!

Stock photo day for blog and social media images – Yes! I could use another day for this though in the upcoming months.

Research a few new ideas for client gifts – In progress. I’ve found a couple ideas, but I’d like a few more.

Send my camera to be cleaned – Done. Nothing too exciting to share here!

Here are my May business goals:

  • Start pre-planning my Instagram content (can you believe I’ve never done this before??)
  • Clean up my Pinterest Boards
  • Research rechargeable flash batteries
  • Refresh website galleries with new images

Last month’s personal goal progress:

  • CLIMB THE ROPE…at the Spartan Race YESSS!!! I FINALLY DID IT! You can read about it on my personal blog if you’re interested!!
  • Schedule at least one date night/day with John where we don’t use our phones. So, we did have a date day, but we used our phones. Womp, womp. There’s always this month to try again though, right??
  • Read one novel for fun. While I was traveling, I read Big Little Lies (and then watched the HBO mini series when I got home!)
  • Stay healthy while traveling. Made it through last month’s trips without getting sick! Hallelujah!

May’s Personal Goals

  • Eat less refined and added sugars. I would love to cut back on sugar to see if it affects how much I crave it these days. I never craved sugar before, but lately, the more I eat, the more I realize how addictive it really is!
  • Limit screen time in the evenings.
  • Refrain from checking emails outside of “office hours”.
  • Celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary!

What I am excited for this month:

  • Weddings! This month is one of my favorite for weddings…not that I’m biased or anything;)
  • Our sixth wedding anniversary!
  • Warmer weather
  • Grilling season!

May is one of my favorite months, so I’m enjoying it while it’s here! Hope you all are enjoying this month so far too!

Pippin Hill Farm Wedding Photos | Mica + Conor

I’m so excited to be sharing this wedding with you all today!! Very early on  in my wedding photography career I second shot a wedding at Pippin Hill Farm and fell in love with it. I couldn’t wait to go back and photograph there again. John and I have been to Pippin Hill several times for wine tastings while we’re visiting Charlottesville and it never ceases to be beautiful! It’s the kind of place that photographs itself, that’s how easy it made my job!

In addition to the beautiful surroundings on Mica and Conor’s wedding day, they were also such a dream to work with! I loved all of the ways that they made their wedding day personal and special…like the round ceremony setup and that Mica gave her bouquet to the longest married couple rather than tossing it to one of her single friends! They also chose to have just a maid of honor and best man. Instead of having all of their friends as an official bridal party, the girls got ready with Mica and the guys got ready with Conor and it was so much more casual and relaxed than a typical day!

Enjoy a few of my favorites!! Be sure to scroll to the end to see a list of all of the vendors who made this day happen!
