Update: kelly moore b hobo review

Tips

January 16, 2013

Since I’ve now had my Kelly Moore B Hobo a full wedding season, I thought it would be fun to share how it’s held up over time! After shooting 17 engagement sessions, sixteen weddings, second shooting at 5 weddings, a handful of portrait sessions, and a trip to Vegas, this bag has definitely been through some things. And not all of them pretty. It’s been on the floor, it’s been rained on, and I may have tripped over it a time or two! If you’re interested, you can read my original review here.

When I wrote my initial review last spring I remember being disappointed that the bag wasn’t real leather. Now that I’ve had the bag for a little while, I think I’m actually glad it isn’t real leather…the pleather bag is actually really nice because it isn’t phased by shooting in the rain or sitting on dirty/dusty floors while I shoot, and it can be wiped off really easily. The fake leather exterior has held up really nicely…it still looks brand new and I get compliments on it all the time! Also, the caramel color doesn’t show dirt and grime, which I love. If I get something on it during a wedding, it isn’t going to look crazy until I can clean it.

The interior of the bag has also held up really nicely! I’m really used to buying cheap purses from Forever 21 and H&M, (you know…the kinds where the lining rips or the seams come apart?) so to me how nice the interior still looks is awesome! I can tell that the bag was really well made. So much so that I can see myself using a Kelly Moore bag as a diaper bag one day…because they are so durable and wipeable!

The only negative thing I could really say about the bag is that the zipper sticks from time to time…but I’m thinking about trying some wax or something on the zipper teeth so that it might slide open and closed more easily. What do you guys think? Any tips for a stubborn zipper?

Lastly, these pictures do NOT do the bag justice at all, but I thought it would be fun to show you guys how I usually wear it. Yes, with the flap all on the side and looking crazy! I’m considering retiring the B Hobo for personal use and getting the classic bag since it doesn’t close. Thoughts?

Thank you Annamarie for the pictures of me!

That’s my only complaint about my hobo too! When it’s full, you can barely zip it (if you can at all)! I keep my zipper open 90% of the time too, but I keep the flap over it otherwise Matt gives me grumpy faces. Haha, doesn’t do much more for coverage though.

All I want to talk about really is how I think those boots look so much more adorable on you than they do me. Maybe I should retire mine. 🙂

I love my B-Hobo! I have the lavender B-Hobo and the Grey Juju and they both are doing me really well. I got the B-Hobo after realizing that my Juju was just TOO much to carry on every portrait session. This is the perfect shooting bag! 🙂 I’m glad you love yours!

I’m glad it’s worn in on you 🙂 I don’t love my Kelly Moore and rarely use it except to hold stuff and leave it sitting at the wedding

I loved my hobo bag so much, but I had issues with the zipper too, and then one day it just completely broke off! So I need to have the zipper completely replaced at some point, since I can’t use it at all without it. I had the same exact problem with my Kelly Moore boy bag, actually – sticky zipper that eventually just broke off one day, so I think it’s an across the board problem with their bags. As much as I love both the hobo and the boy bag, it makes me very hesitant to buy another one of their bags in the future.

i just got that kelly moore bag!!! i had a hard time making that splurge on it, but they had a sale over Christmas and that’s what i got. i’ve only had the opportunity to use it twice so far. it seems pretty good. i can see where it won’t fit a lot of stuff, but it’s a good bag to have on you with the main stuff you need. like your update on it! 🙂

  8. nooooo keep b-hobo. it’s super annoying that the classic won’t close – crap falls out and i’m always paranoid that my batteries/cf cards won’t be in there when i look for them!

I retired my Hobo in September and have been using the Classic instead- it’s SO much easier. Plus, it holds a bit more, so I’m not struggling to get stuff out of it!

Love Kelly Moore Bags. I have the Bhobo, Riva, and Posey. I had the Songbird, very cute (too large for me) but exchanged it for the 2Sues. The 2Sues is also a large bag, many compartments. The Bhobo remains my favorite, just wish I had chosen a neutral color.:)

I know I’m late to the party here. You can help a sticky zipper by running a pencil lead over the teeth. It’s the graphite that helps.
