A Case of the Mondays #32

One of the things that I’ve noticed as my business has grown a lot is that you have to really make time for yourself sometimes or else the business can start to take over your life. For me, my business is something I’m very passionate about so sometimes it can be hard to see where the business ends and regular Katie begins. Being conscious of this and actually scheduling downtime has been so important this year! This weekend was a PERFECT example of this! John’s birthday was Saturday, so we both took off Friday and made it a three day weekend. This was the first three consecutive days off together we’ve had since probably Christmas time! John usually works overtime at his job on weekends if he’s not working with me, so it was really a treat to have three whole uninterrupted days together to relax or just do what we wanted.

Friday afternoon we went to the Williamsburg outlets and then stopped over at Captain George’s seafood buffet for dinner. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Captain George’s or ever been there, but it’s kind of a tourist spot that’s super hyped up. For $31.99 you get all you can eat seafood, sides, etc. John and I LOVE seafood (maybe me more than John) so we went expecting an awesome feast. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all that great and I left feeling disappointed in the amount of money I spent for what we got. It was a fun experience overall though, but I wouldn’t recommend it…there’s definitely fresher/better tasting seafood elsewhere in Virginia!

Saturday and Sunday were super relaxing! We didn’t do much either day…except Saturday night we went to dinner with a group of our friends and Sunday I MADE A PIE. Yes, me, Katie! I’m usually super undomesticated (I haven’t actually cooked dinner in I don’t even know how long…) and I’m terrible at baking. Somehow I got the idea to try baking a blueberry pie from scratch…and it actually turned out halfway decent! Baking is no joke though! There’s so much chemistry involved….who knew that pie dough would turn out better if you freeze it for 20 minutes before using it??

All in all, I think we had a pretty amazing last weekend of summer. I’m so glad we took the break too, because this weekend begins our stretch of 11 weddings in 9 weeks! I’m so excited for all of these fall weddings!! Bring it on, fall!

In other news, Marry & Bright officially launched today! We’re giving away a J. Crew gift card to celebrate!! Make sure you head over to check it out!
