Another ten things you (probably) didn’t know

Personal

February 15, 2013

So I know that there are many people who would say that even posting the first “ten things” post was probably over sharing, but my survey showed that you guys really are interested in personal type posts even though I might think the information I’m sharing about myself is boring and/or kind of ridiculous. I definitely think there is value in sharing yourself though…I want to connect with my clients, potential clients, and my internet friends (that’s not creepy like it sounds) by sharing little things…so here are ten little things you most likely didn’t know about ME.

  1. I won’t watch scary movies. Sometimes I won’t even watch the commercials! My philosophy is this: there are enough things in life to feel anxious or stressed about…when I have down time and can choose a movie to watch, I want something light and fun to escape into! Not something that’s going to make me anxious. Interestingly enough this philosophy doesn’t mean I don’t want to know what happens at the end of a lot of these movies, so sometimes I will look them up on wikipedia after they come out and read the plots for the spoilers:)
  2. I was homeschooled. My sister and I were taught by our mom from my seventh grade year until graduation. I think it definitely helped me build a good foundation for running a small business, because just as when you’re a small business owner, homeschoolers have  lots of work to do, but unstructured days in which to do it. I am thankful I had that time to prepare me for this chapter in my life!
  3. I won’t eat peanut butter unless it’s peanut butter pie or Reese’s. I also prefer my Reese’s to be shaped like fun things…such as hearts or Easter eggs:)
  4. Most of the people I’m closest to are left handed! John is left handed and so are several of my closest friends. Weird! For the record, I’m right handed, but I guess I’m drawn to left handed people?
  5. Vegas is the farthest West I’ve been. I mean, unless you count that I was born in Korea. Korea is so far West it’s actually EAST. haha.
  6. I am 25 and Korean. And I just had Korean food for the first time this year! If you didn’t already know this, I’m adopted. The family that raised me is white and most of my friends are too (I don’t live in a very diverse area if you know what I’m saying…) and I never had the opportunity to go and try it. I think I was also kind of intimidated by the idea of just going by myself or with someone else I knew who had never gone…but my friend Jen took me and even ordered for me and it was awesome! I was scared I wouldn’t like it and it would be weird and unnatural, but I really enjoyed it! Except for the squid pancake or whatever that was. SHUDDER.
  7. I used to dress mannequins for a living! When I was 20 I worked for Old Navy as the Visual Coordinator! Loved my job there as well as that time in my life.
  8. I prefer savory snacks over sweet. Don’t get me wrong…I LIKE desserts! And I like sweet snacks too (like donuts…mmm!)…on occasion. But if you gave me the choice between a cookie and a small fry with ranch dip on the side, I’m going to choose the fries hands down every time. In particular my weaknesses are anything potato! Potato chips, french fries, and ESPECIALLY tater tots. Oh man. So good!
  9. I hate wearing stuff on my lips. I don’t wear lipstick, lip gloss, or even chapstick. Sometimes I do use a little Burt’s Bees or something, but it has to be reaaaalllly dry or a beach day and I need the extra sunscreen because I hate how it feels. I didn’t even wear lip gloss or anything at my wedding!!
  10. I get car sick very easily…but I can ride roller coasters! Well, I can ride the roller coasters that have regular drops. I can’t do anything with loops or corkscrews really because they make me feel gross. But when it comes to riding in a car I can only sit in the back if I’m very careful to sit in the middle and make sure I’m looking out the windshield. I have also gotten car sick while driving, which I’m pretty sure is not supposed to happen…lol

So that’s another round up of completely useless random facts about me! What do  you guys have planned for the weekend? I have some client meetings and an engagement session in Alexandria, so I’m going to give myself a light day today and probably take the afternoon to finally clean up my closet and maybe watch a movie! Any suggestions on what I should try to see?

HAPPY WEEKEND!!!

Reese’s Eggs are the BEST! 🙂

  2. Rebekah Hoyt says:

I love this! I am 100% with you on #1 – def can’t watch scary movies or even the trailers. Don’t want that stuff in my brain. I’m also convinced that the Reese’s eggs taste better than the PB cups. I’m also with you on #9 and #10, except I don’t ride roller coasters either… but I don’t know what I’m missing out on, so I guess I don’t mind it so much!

  3. Urška Majer says:

So nice to read a personal post like this and do i have to mention that i love this funny photo!

  4. Brea says:

I totally agree with the PB cups vs Eggs or Trees or whatever too. There’s a better PB to chocolate ratio and texture. They were actually talking about that on the morning show on the radio the other day!!

  5. Linda says:

I can’t watch scary movies either! OR the commercials! My husband and sister will joke around and one will cover my eyes and one will cover my ears when a commercial comes on!

  6. Anna K. says:

I love this and I love that you post these things! I might have to do one of my own, but I don’t think I’m as interesting as you are! You’re the best Katie!

  7. Katie you’re so cute! I hate scary movies too! And I think it’s so awesome that being homeschooled taught you how to be disciplined with your work!

  8. Becca says:

KATIE, i absolutely hate scary movies, too, but I also often go to IMDB to read the full synopsis!! I thought I was the only one who was weird like that? Haha, I’m just so curious, but I can’t stand to watch it cuz I’ll have nightmares forever and be on edge for weeks!

  9. Anna Kerns says:

You are SO cute! I love getting to know you more! I’m totally with you about the scary movies! I even close my eyes when there are commercials for scary movies on TV. I agree that Reese’s is more fun (and tastes better) in shapes, I think it’s the peanut butter to chocolate ratio. I’m lucky to have a mother-in-law who makes me homemade Reese’s eggs every year for Easter! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Jackie says:

I totally share number 1 & 3 with you!!! I hate peanut butter, yet can eat Reese Cups!! Also, so awesome about styling for Old Navy! Super cool! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Dani says:

I heart your personal posts. And I get car sick too. But love spinny rides and roller coasters.

  12. Maria says:

I look up scary movie summaries on Wikipedia too! And so with you on #3!! And I’m so in shock of #9 as I can’t live without chapstick! I have at least three chapsticks in my purse right now and at least four others floating around my house and one in my car!

  13. YES YES YES to number 1!!!! If a movie doesn’t make me feel (mostly) better about life – I don’t need to watch it! I shut my eyes, plug my ears, and sing loudly during scary movie commercials too! AH! Hate them!

  14. Holly says:

I TOTALLY feel you on the lip stuff!! 😛

  15. ashley link says:

these are awesome! i totally agree about the scary movies! i hate that they show so many previews for them when i’m trying to watch my abc family shows! haha. i also used to be homeschooled (only 3 years) and i get carsick too! haha. love the personal post!!! plus, you’ve made me want a reese’s egg REALLY badly haha.

  16. Robin B. says:

YES, Katie!! Please ask Meagan to post more pictures of you dancing. The world NEEDS to know what a great dancer you are. : )
