For Photographers: More iPhone Apps

For Photographers

January 29, 2013

A while back I wrote a post about my favorite business apps for the iPhone, but since then I’ve started using a few more apps that really help me out so I thought it would be fun to do an update with some apps that I’m loving now!

Dark Sky
I found out about this one when I was second shooting last year…one of the bridesmaids mentioned this app and I immediately had to download it because my wedding the next day was forecasted to be really rainy. I am SO GLAD I did. Dark Sky seems to predict whether or not it will be raining in the next hour or so, which is great if you’re a wedding photographer and need to try and make decisions on when to do portraits. So far whenever I’ve used it, it’s been accurate too, so I definitely recommend picking this app up if you can! I think it’s $3.99, but for me it’s been well worth it!

SignNow
I just discovered this one right around Christmastime…maybe a little before that. It’s SUCH a lifesaver. Before I started using SignNow, I would set a contract down on my desk or on a table and then not be able to find it for weeks. Or I would wonder if the clients had mailed the contract and have to email them to ask. Now when clients are ready to book, I upload their contract to SignNow, fill in any additional fields, add my signature, and invite them to sign the contract via SignNow! All of these things can also be done by the app, so if you were on a trip or just not able to get to a computer, you would still be able to send your clients your contract! And the best part is that SignNow is actually free to use for the first five contracts signed a month!

PASS
This year I’m using PASS as a delivery method for all of my wedding clients. If you don’t know what PASS is, it’s this really awesome cloud storage program that allows clients to download their images anytime, from ANYWHERE. There’s also an APP for PASS, which I really love because not only do I get to take my own personal pictures that I’ve PASSed everywhere I go, I get to take my portfolio with me too! Since PASS is so new I like having the app on my iphone so I can show potential clients just how cool it is.

Mint
If you’re using mint.com to track your finances, you will LOVE the app! I have a personal mint account and a business mint account, but I only track my business one on my phone. The app itself is really easy to use and I love that.

Google Drive
Okay, so maybe it’s a little bit of sacrilege to use a google product on an iPhone, but I use Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) all the time for things like keeping a spreadsheet of my business mileage, client wedding day timelines, and even personal things too. I like being able to access these things if I need to on the go. I wish I had downloaded this app before the flood we had last year! I had to rush out of our apartment with only what I could carry…I had my gear, an overnight bag with what I was wearing to the wedding I had that day along with some shower supplies, and a few other things. I had to take CAMERA PHONE PICTURES of the wedding day timeline because I couldn’t get the folder into my bag. Ghettooo fab for SURE. Now if there’s ever a natural disaster on a wedding day, chances are I will have the timeline already safely on Google drive:)

iphone apps for wedding photographers

Honorable Mention (aka my new favorite non business apps)

Vine
I LOVE videos (especially stop motion videos) and I really love social media. Vine kind of combines both of those things into one experience that’s kind of like an instagram feed, but for videos of random things.I don’t know if I will ever use it as much as I use instagram, but I think it will be something fun to play with every once in a while!

Whitagram
Have you ever seen pictures on Instagram that aren’t in the shape of a square? They look more like a normal rectangular photo? I use Whitagram for this! It’s a free app that lets you put your pictures onto a white background and keep them at whatever you had cropped them to.

Gems with Friends
I am legit obsessed with this game. I would play game after game against the computer or MYSELF if they had the option. I don’t know what it is about the game that makes me love it so much! I think I like it because it’s kind of weirdly soothing and doesn’t require much thought, but is also very satisfying to play. Haha. It’s FUN. Trust me!

Fun iPhone apps

Well, that’s pretty much it! Do you guys have any favorite apps that you love for iPhone? And what’s your take on putting a password on your iPhone? I never had a password on mine until a day or two ago when I realized almost everyone who has an iPhone has a password on theirs? I guess I figured I had nothing to hide…BUT I realized that there’s SO MUCH personal info on my phone if it ever gets lost or stolen, it could be disastrous if I didn’t have a password! What do you guys think?
